VOB Lumex is a universal tool for the analysis, design and optimization of illumination systems. It uses advanced non-sequential ray-tracing techniques. The generation and propagation of rays are carried out by Monte-Carlo methods.

Highlights:

  • Interactive design and powerful 3D viewer (OpenGL™)
  • Generalized 3D solid model: No basic distinction between optical components and mechanical elements.
  • An extensive library of predefined optical and mechanical components/surfaces including generators for parametric objects.
  • Import and export of CAD data as triangular meshes
  • Realistic volume light sources, multiple light sources with complex shapes.
  • Light interaction also includes scattering and absorption
  • Thermo-dynamic analysis included, components emit and receive heat and/or light radiation.
  • Simulation of heat radiation: Incandescent elements emit light
  • Well suited for the design of backlight illumination systems
  • Additionally, a special edition is available with particular components for backlight illumination systems (for liquid crystal displays)
  • The distribution of illuminance can be evaluated for any virtual plane through the optical system.
For evaluation, please download the trial version.

VOB Lumex was developed by the highly skilled staff of METEC Ltd., St. Petersburg. The authors are graduate physicists and engineers of the famous St. Petersburg University and the St. Petersburg Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics renowned for their developments in infrared and space optics technologies.

VOB Lumex generates large numbers of rays emanating from the light sources and thermal radiation sources by the Monte Carlo method. After hitting a surface of a component, the emanating ray is determined by statistical methods according to the probabilities for specular or diffuse reflection and refraction. The light interacts with any component/surface of the system.
